The Association of Independent Festivals is a non-profit trade association created to represent UK independent music festivals. The membership comprises over 40 festivals; combined attendance of these events is in excess of 550,000 people. The aim is to help the businesses of our individual members, and help the needs of the independent festival sector.

A GREENER FESTIVAL is committed to helping music and arts festivals around the world adopt environmentally efficient practices. AGF provides information, education resources, training, and facilitates the exchange of good ideas. AGF’s website provides free information about how environmentally efficient methods are currently being employed at music and arts festivals, and how negative impact of festivals on the environment can be limited and reduced. AGF created the leading international green event award “A Greener Festival Award” in 2007, which assesses and accredits festivals on their environmental performance. Recognised as “The international standard for environmentally efficient music festivals” the Green Festival Awards operate in 5 continents managed by local volunteers, and assesses over 50 festivals globally each year. AGF initiatives include “Festival Wood”, a reforestation project managed by Trees for Life in Scotland, ongoing audience research with Bucks New University, and the annual Green Events & Innovations conference.
Bucks New University has developed a reputation for its innovative programmes and has a long and successful history of educating and training for the music and events Industries. Through the Centre for Crowd Management and Security Studies, Bucks has also become the leading providers of higher level education and training for the crowd management and security industries supported by ground breaking research.
The Green Festival Alliance (GFA) brings together promoters and suppliers committed to acting on climate change to identify and speed up the adoption of sustainable practices at festivals. The Alliance was formally launched in January 2012 by a steering group of founder members: Julie’s Bicycle, Bestival, Festival Republic, Shambala Festival, Kambe Events Ltd, the Association of Independent Festivals and and Firefly Solar.
