About
Festival Awards UK is the annual Oscars of the contemporary music festival industry, and the only body which recognises the huge effort which goes into producing Britain’s world-leading music festival scene.
Since its launch in 2004, it has grown into a major event at The Roundhouse in London, giving the industry chance to let its hair down and celebrate the achievements of the past year.
With a gourmet dinner, gala awards ceremony and after-show party, it attracts over 1,000 of the most influential people in the business.
Over half a million fan votes were cast last year, making it the benchmark by which festival-goers rate their experiences, and a coveted prize for organisers.
Awards include Best Major, Medium and Small Festival, Best Family Festival, Best Overseas Festival, Best Headline Performance, and of course – Best Toilets!

I love the idea of the awards recognising world-leading festivals, but in the categories stated there remains an assumption that all festivals have an entrance fee.
Is it not unreasonable to expect judges to compare a community festival that is free, with a small festival that is charging an entrance fee ?
Both could be World-leading, both could be high quality events.
I wholeheartedly agree that free community events can be of equally high standard as ticketed events. Choosing where to draw the line in comparing the two is profoundly tricky, so we feel it’s better to put everyone together – free and paid-for, to be compared on a capacity basis rather than the cost of entry.
